Coronary angiography

Coronary angioplasty is a medical procedure which improves blood flow by opening up arteries blocked by the buildup of fatty deposits in the blood vessels. Blocked arteries are often caused by high cholesterol levels, which can lead to atherosclerosis. This procedure is a way to open up arteries that have become too narrow, which blocks the blood flow that brings oxygen to the heart muscles.

Coronary angioplasty is performed in a hospital. Your doctor will give you instructions on how to prepare for the procedure. Coronary angioplasty is easier on the patient than coronary bypass surgery, and the success rate is high. However, this procedure is not a cure for coronary artery disease or other heart diseases - it is only one type of treatment.

After this procedure, you may feel better than you have in a long time, but it is important to change your lifestyle and reduce your coronary risk factors. Call your doctor as soon as possible if you notice symptoms of possible complications.
